Redwood City, California

When I was pregnant, my husband and I were looking for a house when we absolutely fell in love with this 1920s cottage in the Mount Carmel area of Redwood City.

Even though we didn’t think it was our forever home, we still wanted it to be beautiful and functional, so we set off on a renovation to update it while maintaining the original charm of the home. We thought we’d only be there a few years, so I forced myself to hold back a bit on the renovation. But I still figured out how to make it special—a few eclectic family pieces, a dramatic custom butcher block island in the new kitchen—while still keeping it simple and clean and appealing. Now five years later, we’re still there, and I don’t see us moving anytime soon. It’s a really cozy house and just perfect for our family. Of course, it’s changed with us over the years, and I know it will continue to evolve, just as I expect all of my clients’ homes will as their styles and needs shift and grow.
